Irish Stout Cheddar Bread

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Irish inspired beer bread with salty cheese make this bread a great addition to any corned beef and cabbage plate.

Irish Stout Cheddar Bread:

3 c. all-purpose flour – sifted

4 t. baking soda

1 t. salt

1/4 c. sugar

1 12 oz. bottle of Irish stout beer

1 c. cheddar cheese- coarsely shredded

2 T. salted butter – melted

Preheat oven to 375.  Sift flour into a large mixing bowl. Sifting your flour first will help make your bread less dense. Add baking soda, salt, and sugar to sifted flour and mix. Pour in one bottle of Irish stout beer and stir. You can also make this with a simple ale or lager beer. The dough will be sticky when mixing. Mix in shredded cheddar cheese and spoon into a greased round baking dish. I used orange cheddar for color, but white cheddar is fine too. Using a rubber spatula, scrap the sides of the bowl to gather any remaining dough and add to baking dish. Pour melted butter over dough and bake for 1 hour. Let cool for about 20 minutes and remove from dish.  Slice and serve warm.
